Long straights and high-speed cornering renders this racecourse a challenging rarity, and its history makes the Lone Pine Time Trials a California racing legend. Are you coming?
The 47th-annual Lone Pine Time Trials (LPTT) is almost here. Set for the weekend of May 20 and 21, this historic race, held without interruption since 1970 at central California’s legendary Manzanar Airport, is once again positioned to put a broad collection of road-racers and canyon carvers in a summer racing mood.
Come for the race, stay for the history. Set in classic high-mountain California, in the shadow of Mt. Whitney and just south of the Mammoth Mountain area and Bishop, CA, this long, high-speed racing surface is cut into the prewar Manzanar Airport complex, and provides second, third and fourth-gear time-trialing that short-course cone-chasers crave. The track will keep close to the classic layout, with no new track features planned: approximately 2.2 miles from start to finish, the fastest cars complete a lap in just shy of two minutes, averaging over 70mph.
A special thanks goes out to the Sports Car Club of America San Diego Region (SCCA San Diego), whose Solo board of directors will provide timing equipment for the event. In addition, Perez Quality Tires of Bishop will be returning to provide tire support on-site, food concessions will be on-hand, and as always, Lee from Lee’s Chevron and Deli in Lone Pine will provide a keg of beer for pre-race festivities Friday night at Lone Pine’s historic Dow Villa Hotel.

The Lone Pine Time Trails has been held on historic Manzanar Airport’s X-shaped runways since 1970. Competitors from around the west have competed in NASA, Solo, SCCA, IMSA, NASCAR, private, club, hillclimb, time-attack, drift and vintage-classed race vehicles, and a comprehensive rules list ensures these many racing disciplines are able to partake in this unique high-speed competition. The National Auto Sport Association sanctions the event.
